Water Safety with Tracey
Today we listened to Tracey from Swimsafe. She taught us about safety in the water. We learned how to put on a life jacket and how to tell if it's the right size. A life jacket needs to be nice and tight so it can't come off in the water. If you are swimming at a beach swim between the red and yellow flags. The life guard is there to help.

Fire Station visit
Room 8 and 7 went to visit our local Te Anau Fire Station and met Fireman Justin again there. We gave Fireman Justin some thank you cards and pictures because he and Fireman Craig were good citizens and came and talked to us about being volunteers at school. We saw the special uniform that the Firemen put on when there is a fire or an emergency. Liv and Finn got to try them on. Liv said, "It was heavy and big." There are four different coloured helmets, white, red, yellow and green. The blue helmets are for special helpers. The boss wears the white helmet, then the next in charge wear red and everyone else wears yellow. Training Firemen wear green helmets. We saw the Fire Engines. There are three Fire Engines at the Te Anau Fire Station. We all got to have a look and a sit in a Fire Engine. On our way back to school we found a yellow rectangle on the ground. It was a Fire Hydrant with a water hose underneath for the Firemen to hook their Fire Engines up to for water.

Dental Bus visit
Today Room 8 visited the Dental Bus that has just arrived back at Te Anau School. We met Helen and Pip, the Dental Therapists. Hannah got to dress up as a Dental Therapist and check Yiyi's teeth. Yiyi got to sit on the special seat that lifted her up and down. We all got a picture of some food and got to decide whether they were 'Every day' or 'Treat' foods. We all got a cool sticker and had lots of fun at the Dental Bus.

Volunteer Firemen come to school.
Fireman Justin and Fireman Craig came to school to talk to us about how being Firemen make them good citizens. Fireman Justin wanted to become a Fireman because his Dad was one. Fireman Craig wanted to be a Fireman because he wanted to go in a Fire Engine. They both wanted to help people in our community. Being a volunteer means that they do not get paid any money so they both have other jobs.

Cross Country
Cross Country
Cross Country was exciting. Mr Excell clapped the clappers at the starting line. They sounded like a clap. We felt nervous. We ran fast around the grass paddock and through a prickle patch. We followed the sheep tracks through the prickle patch. It felt prickly, ouch! We jumped high over the hay bales. We sprinted to the finish line. When we crossed the finish line we got a juicy mandarin to eat. Cross Country was the best!

Rose and Hoppy
We love the baby bunnies. Their names are Hoppy and Rose. They are mini lop rabbits and are 8 weeks old. They are cute and cuddly. They feel really soft and snuggly. Rose and Hoppy like to eat carrots and celery. They live together in a hutch because they are sisters and they love each other very much. We hope Rose and Hoppy come back another day.

Sharing our reading
Room 8 visited Southern Stars and Fiordland Kindergarten this week. We read stories to the kids and the teachers. We shared stories with the kids because we are learning about how to be good citizens in our community. Being a good citizen is being a good helper and being kind and caring to other people.
